In addition to kicking off our board elections, we’ll also be discussing our transit justice platform for the City of Detroit, that we’ll be seeking to hold candidates to in this year’s municipal elections. Read about what our board has done over the last year in this blog post, and if you have any questions about being a board member, please reach out and we’d be happy to chat! To run as a candidate, simply send a brief statement (200 words or less) introducing yourself and explaining your interest, along with a picture of yourself, to by May 1st.

Board members have an additional meeting every two months, with a few hours per month of tasks in-between. Everyone who is interested in getting more involved in building the movement for transit justice is encouraged to put their names forward-you just need to be a member up to date on your dues. The Motor City Freedom Riders are a democratic organization, where the leadership overseeing our finances and staff are directly elected from among the members themselves.

On Saturday, May 1, at 12:00 pm, we will be holding our Spring General Assembly-a meeting of our whole membership to make some major decisions about our transit justice campaigns and elect our Board of Directors for the coming year.
